Facebook challenge #3 What happened to the others?

Its late and I have to be up early tomorrow to get ready to go to Canada so I'll make this quick. Since next week I am going to be attending the Ottawa Animation festival in Canada I am not going to be able to do the challenge for next week. Since I will not be here to do a challenge I have decided to let you guys pick the topic for next week. Just leave a suggestion here or in the facebook group and when I get back to the good ol' US of A I'll pick a topic from one of the ones you guys suggested.

Anyway back to buisness. This week the picture was based on a single line from any song... and the winner is: "We're in the building where they make us grow, and I'm frightened by the liquid engineers, like you"

and the picture: What happened to the others?

Facebook challenge #1

This is the first of many drawings in a series of "challenges" that will take place on facebook. I figured if I did something like this it would keep me drawing, which I haven't been doing enough of latley. Ok the way this works, if you didn't see my original facebook post about it, is i'll update my status saying the challenge is starting and them people reply with a couple of random words. I'll then pick some of those words and work them into a picture. Im going to try and do this every week, and maybe sometimes there will be theme, or i'll change up the rules to the challenges. Lets see how this goes this week and i'll go from there.

These were the words people replied with:

1. fox, toad, falcon, hare

2. barrel roll

3. donuts, staplers, shoe boxes

4. purple, monkey, dishwasher

5. zombie, slave, star, chupacabra

6. snake, love seat, green liquid

Obviously not all the words made it in, but here is the final product:

Garden Fox and company.

Sketchbook round up

I was going through some of my old sketch books from while I was in school and I figured I'd share some of what I found with everyone. Most of these are concept sketches for illustration projects some are for projects that are still in the process of being made. Either way its stuff no one has seen before. Sorry about the bad quality of some of the scans, i have a tiny little sketchbook and couldn't get everything to scan evenly.

Whats old is new again.

Here's a look into Disney's new 2d animated film The Princess and the Frog. For those of you who haven't been paying attention this is Disney's first 2d movie since they officially closed their 2d animation studio back in 2004 after they released Home on the range. They also handled the distribution for Miyazaki's newest 2d animated film Ponyo, which I still have yet to see. Its good to see things starting to make its way back to 2d.

And its not just movies that are getting the throw back treatment, but games too. Recent games such as Castle crashers, Splosion man, and Shadow complex are all old school 2d games at heart. While Castle crashers is the only one fully animated in 2d, but they all rely on 2d game mechanics. It just warms my heart to see things I grew up with coming back.
